Phthalic Anhydride, an organic compound, is a cyclic anhydride formed by dehydration within the phthalic acid molecule, is a white crystalline powder, insoluble in cold water, slightly soluble in hot water, ether, soluble in ethanol, pyridine, benzene, carbon disulfide, etc., it is an important organic chemical raw material, and it is an important intermediate in the preparation of phthalic acid ester plasticisers, paints, saccharin, dyes and organic compounds.
Phthalic anhydride (PA) is produced by partial oxidation reaction of o-xylene (OX). It is in the form of white crystalline flakes at room temperature, and will form acids when in contact with water.
Phthalic anhydride is mainly used in the production of phthalate plasticizers, but also used in paint dyes, pigments, alkyd resins, polyester resins, pharmaceutical intermediates, insect repellents and other industries.
